Kiwi chef reunited with childhood friend

29 Jun 2010

"Hospitality must have been in the blood" of two New Zealanders whose fathers used to flip burgers together. Josh Emett, who worked for many years at Gordon Ramsay's New York restaurant, and Blair Walter, who created more than 10 vintages in his winery in Otago, New Zealand, grew up on neighbouring farms.

Earlier this year, Emett started work as chef de cuisine in Ramsay's 'Maze' in Melbourne, and he was last week reunited with Walter as they took centre-stage at a 'Winter Food and Wine Weekend' in Hawke's Bay (New Zealand). Emett's exotic food - "the likes of seared yellow fin tuna, white radish, yuzu, enoki mushrooms and black garlic" was eaten alongside a selection of Walton's fine wines.
