Jade Kilty, demi chef de partie at the Marriott Hotel in Sunderland, has won the North East Chef of the Year Competition.
The competition involved the entrants demonstrating their skills of slicing and dicing various vegtables in assorted ways, before cooking a 2 course meal using locally sourced ingredients in 90 minutes.
Event organiser, Douglas Jordan, said the competition was a good way to encourage more chefs into the industry "It shows young people it is hard work but can be a very rewarding career choice."
