This chef role includes all aspects of kitchen management and production. We serve our guests with a hot breakfast, and afternoon tea (cake), and then canapes and a 3 course evening meal, 6 days of each week. The menu and recipes are established, and the kitchen already prepared. For the first week you will be guided through each service, and then be expected to take full control following that.
You will work alongside a full time front-of-house and also with the assistance of one of the owners during busy sessions.
As well as the chef duties, and keeping the kitchen in good order, the chef will also be expected to help turn the chalet over on our
guest changeover days.
This season we are low on bookings due to brexit, so there are currently 5 full weeks to cater for (ranging between 15 and 21 guests), and 2 very low weeks (2 or 3 guests). So there will be some busy weeks, but it's looking as though for at least half the time the staff will be able to enjoy very easy weeks skiing. You will be paid each week regardless of guests.
You will have very comfortable accommodation, and your choice of the food and drink that is available to guests.
The Grand Massif is an exceptional ski domain, with 40,000 hectares of pistes to go after and possibly the best off-piste in the whole Haute-Savoie region of France. Samoëns itself is an authentic pretty french town with a history of stonemasons. So this is not purpose-built ski area, but a really lovely part of France with great skiing.
Please do send an application along with any questions you may have.
You should have some training and/or experience at the very least. Either working as a chef, or via a culinary school or course.
Organisation and approach are critical. A chalet kitchen, especially during service, has to be a well organised and well oiled machine. Everything should be as prepared as possible in advance, and the kitchen needs to be maintained at all times to avoid chaos ensuing.
Ideally you will have a clean driving license that you have held for at least 3 years. You will not be required to drive guests, but you will probably want to be able to get yourself up and down the mountain and not rely on lifts.
