Waitrose to open cookery school
14 Jul 2010
Waitrose is set to become Britain's first supermarket chain to open its own cookery school, where it will show its customers how to prepare the food they buy. Aimed at everyone from complete beginners to experienced cooks, the cookery school, located above Waitrose's Finchley Road branch in North London, will offer "sessions on different styles of cuisine, from whipping up a fabulous Indian or Thai feast to preparing a tasty Italian or French meal," according to a Daily Mail article. The students will be able to collect the necessary ingredients from the supermarket and chefs and teachers will give them advice on entertaining guests, various kitchen skills and putting a menu together.
Neil Nugent, the school's executive chef, said: "We want to inspire the nation to move from just watching cookery programmes to actually cooking and experimenting with new ingredients." Due to open in October, the school will offer full-day, half-day and weekend workshops, with the aim to "accommodate for everyone's needs".
