Winner of Gourmet Dessert Chef of the Year announced

12th July 2012

Sarah Frankland, Head Patissier at William Curley, has been crowned the first winner of the Movenpick Gourmet Dessert Chef of the Year competition.

The first ever annual competition to find the best gourmet dessert challenged professional chefs to design a unique new dessert using Movenpick's flavours.

Six lucky finalists were chosen by the judging panel made of three professional chefs, the Head of Customer Marketing at Movenpick Ice Cream and the Editor of Stockpot magazine.

The six successful chefs showed their skills in a live cook-off at Westminster Kingsway College on 5 July 2012. "All six finalists really excelled in pushing the boundaries of creativity under the pressure of timed conditions and the scrutiny of myself and fellow judges," said judge Allan Pickett, Head Chef at Plateau in London.

Sarah's dessert, which was praised by judges for its innovative use of ingredients, flavour combination and elegant presentation was created around Movenpick Ice Cream's Hazelnut flavour. Using this she created her winning dish - Poached apple cannelloni centred with a jasmine mousse topped on a chocolate sable breton, served with Movenpick Hazelnut Ice Cream, blackberry sauce, fresh blackerries, apple foam, poached apple, jasmine flowers and apple blossom.

The winner of the competition received a luxury weekend for two to the home of Movenpick Cream in Switzerland, with two lucky runners up joining a Patisserie & Desserts day course at Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons.
